  • Incredible meal for an adventurous palate. They have English menus, and our server was patient with my Japanenglish- in fact, she was SUPER sweet. My husband isn't a fan of fermented foods, and even he is still raving about this meal a year later. Absolute best meal we had the entire time we were in Japan, and we are foodies. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is in Kyoto.

  • Excellent food, we had the 8-item fermentation menu and it was simply delicious! Also we tried the natto beans not at all like you would expect, not slimy stinky or anything like that ;) the staff is very friendly and knows a lot about the process of fermentation. The price of the menu totally pays off. Thank you so much!

  • Awesome little restaurant where you can taste the extent of Japanese fermentation. We had a very tasteful lunch, full of new flavors! You need to be prepared for strong taste, but then it's a real pleasure. And don't hesitate to try the natto, once with their home sauce, it's delicious (it was our first time, and passed the initial surprise, we loved it!). It is mostly vegetarian, which is even better!

  • This was the best meal of our trip. A tiny fermented foods shop close to the station that deserves a long line at the door but was almost empty when we visited. The 8-course introduction to fermented foods is ridiculously cheap for the explosion of flavours and colours you will get to experience. Do yourself a favor if you love food and just go!!

  • We stumbled upon this place because we wanted somewhere a bit further away from the touristy crowds. We’re so glad we found this little restaurant! We had the most incredible noodles with an assortment of fermented dishes. The house made soda and ice tea were delicious, and we finished our meal with (what we think was) Amazake ice cream. All in all, it was a great meal with interesting flavours, and warm service. We had no issues ordering in English either.

  • A place where we nourished our human self, but more importantly our microbial self! Delicious, grounding and nourishing food rooted in the fermentation tradition of japan. The miso soup is the best we have tasted, in Kyoto style, flavorful, rich and sweet. The set meal felt clear and complete. Later we bumped into the owner, Megumi upstairs, who shared that serving the best miso soup they could make was her most important principle in starting the restaurant. Upstairs, we were lucky to be greeted by the amazing owners, who not only shared passionately about the products they made and sourced from, but who also selflessly pointed us in the direction of workshops, classes, places to visit etc if we wished to take our fermentation discovery journey further and deeper. All the best wishes and hope to meet again :)

  • Amazing food! So much work, knowledge and effort goes into fermented foods. The prices are so affordable and what you get would be served for ten times the price in Europe. Very memorable meal. There is also a little shop with fermented food and sets if you go up next door!
